In the Community

Sunday evening the temperature was once again down to - 27 C. We did enjoy the few days of warmer weather. We have had very little snow and no strong winds even though the temperature has dropped.

So far I have introduced three adjudicators for this year's Kiwanis Battlefords Music Festival - band adjudicator Greg McLean, our strings adjudicator Rudolf Sternadel and Kevin Powers, adjudicator exclusive to Musical Theatre.

Congratulations to Team Burnett who captured the silver medal at the Saskatchewan Winter Games in Prince Albert over the weekend. In pool A round robin they won three and lost one, then won the first playoff game against Lakeland.

My wife and I boarded the plane Feb. 11 at 27 C, a pleasant ocean breeze and palm trees waving their goodbyes. Eight hours later we landed to -27 C with a fresh westerly wind, snowflakes falling and snow banks as a welcome back.

With a quick squeaky twist here and another there, a plain balloon can be quickly turned into something fun. The man creating this fun is Larry Goodall or "The Balloon Man.

Battle River Treaty 6 Health Centre and Battlefords Family Health Centre will host a celebration for International Women's Day Friday, March 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1192 - 101st St. (in the main foyer area and the basement conference room area).

The kids are back in school and it's time to unpack the holiday luggage. If you look around, you will see there are some great musical opportunities coming up. The first is coming up right away, Tuesday, Feb.

When the cowboys had gone to bed, I helped myself to the rest of that Southern Comfort and sat by the fire. The cowboys had complained they were tired and they wanted an early night to rest but I was fired up on life.

The Battlefords Photo Club met for their monthly meeting Feb. 7.

A break in the weather at last, and we're not getting as much snow as many other places. New York City has had 40 inches of snow in 2014. England's floods are also unreal and putting a strain on all resources.
