John Newbold celebrated his 99th birthday with friends dropping in for cake and coffee at his home in Borden Jan. 2, with his sister Olive Foley from Kamloops the hostess.

Crystal Sutherland and Tyneal Wakefield are both members of Grey Hairs, a Maidstone ladies' hockey team. They took part in a tournament held in Maidstone Jan. 5. Teams participating were from Paradise Valley, Senlac, Wilkie and Maidstone.

Sarah Beaudoin is 95 years young. Family and friends gathered Jan. 5 at the Maymont Seniors' Centre to celebrate Sarah's birthday. A great crowd of close to 100 people packed the centre. The Beaudoin family would like to thank everyone who attended.

Sincere thoughts go out to my sister Margaret and her husband Sam Parrish on the recent passing of Sam's twin sister Elenor Gubbe of Battleford, formerly of Willowmoore.

Santa's Holiday Hoedown was the theme of the Christmas concert held in the Neilburg Composite School gym Dec. 12.

New year 2013 has arrived and we hope it is a good one in every way. Jean Stewart spent Christmas Eve with the Cameron Stewart family and Christmas Day with the Stoughton family. It was so good to see everyone and all the great-grandchildren.

The Christmas season has come and gone all too quickly. It was a busy time with lots of visiting, entertaining and family gatherings. Some, who had been wintering in Arizona and area, were home for Christmas.

A precautionary drinking water advisory has been issued for the Village of Neilburg. A power outage during the night Dec. 30/31 caused a pump system failure which resulted in a situation where this order was necessary.

Well, now it's official. Both regular Christmas and Ukrainian Christmas are over. Ukrainian New Year's is this weekend and there are still some communities in Saskatchewan who celebrate these festivities.

Otis Jones was born at Bush Creek, Grant County in the state of Arkansas, U.S.A in 1890. While he was studying at the University of Little Rock, one of his professors asked Otis to accompany him for a tour of Canada.
