The only wooden timber bridge left on the main grid road had to have the top removed so some of the main girders and beams beneath could be replaced. A nearby beaver dam was also demolished. The bridge work did hold up the traffic for a few hours.

Arguably the most prominent art in our community is music.

The Allen Sapp Gallery gift shop is currently featuring the work of Mervin artist Karlie King. Karlie was born and raised in Saskatchewan, but has spent much time in other parts of Canada and has travelled overseas.

Paynton is waking up from it's winter slumber and starting to buzz with activity. The Paynton Volunteer Fire Department was called out for their first fire (that wasn't a false alarm) of the year May 4.

Early this spring Mary Linnell attended a community theatre in Speers. The play, A Little Piece of Heaven written by Matthew Carlin, takes place in a small antique shop where people find things they have been searching for.

Royal Purple (District No. 6) had their 57th annual meeting in Cut Knife at the Legion Hall May 1, with 39 members of three lodges - North Battleford, Cut Knife, and St. Walburg - attending.

I am trusting Mother's Day was wonderful Sunday. Even though I'm a mother myself, I forgot to wish all of you moms and grandmas a happy Mother's Day. Spring is here and that means ball season is in full swing.

Thirty members of the Rivers Edge Quilters enjoyed a catered supper following their final meeting of the year, which will extend to Aug. 30.

Six John Paul II students were awarded Crusader of the Month status at the school's April 20 Lenten Mass. Division III winners included Grade 9 students Paige Parnitsky, Tiandra Ewanchuk and Dexter Mercer.

Mervin 4-H Beef Club has had a busy year. Members started the year with a Trees for Life fundraiser at the Mervin Hope Hall Nov. 27. The barbecue beef burger lunch was a success. Dec.
