Council notes Feb 27 meeting

It was a day Grade 1 and 2 students at St. Mary School had been looking forward to for weeks. Heart-shaped balloons bobbed on either side of the lectern, cloud-like puffs made of paper hung from the ceiling and rose petals spotted a floor runner.

Nipawin Council is making plans for Canada’s 150th birthday. At a regular meeting of council on Feb. 27, council voted to approve a pre-budget expenditure of $9,000 for a fireworks show on July 16th.

Sharon Milligan , a resident of Carrot River, is concerned about the direction the province is going. She’s concerned about the GTH land deal, the amount spent on LEAN processes in the health system, the effectiveness of the $1.

Tax abatement is working in many communities to help promote development and expansion of local businesses. However the City of Humboldt only has tax exemptions for renovations for downtown businesses.

It was a busy weekend for the band The Middle Coast as they played a pair of shows, opening their 11 stop Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils with stops in Humboldt on Feb. 24 and Watrous on Feb. 25.

Mother nature has not been kind to the snowmobiling community this past winter. But that did not stop 15 riders from bringing out their vintage snow machines to the Vintage Snowmobile Rally on Feb. 25 put on by the Humboldt Area Vintage Club.
