Maidstone RCMP are investigating an assault on a 12-year-old boy Monday at about 10 a.m. in Lashburn

According to RCMP, the youth was feeling ill and, while walking home from school, a masked man approached on foot and attacked him, punching him several times in the stomach. The man then left the scene on foot.

Police say the attack occurred at the end of an alley near the old Lashburn High School at 1st Street West. The youth suffered minor injuries.

The perpetrator is described as being in his mid-40s, six feet tall with greying hair. He was wearing blue jeans, brown boots, an old-style goalie mask and a black jacket.

Members did patrols in the area and made neighborhood inquiries, but were unable to locate a suspect. Investigators say it has not been determined if this was a random or targeted attack. RCMP advise students within the community to stay in well-lit areas and to walk with a friend or in groups. Members continue to investigate.
