Melfort’s new top cop introduced himself to that city’s council. Staff Sgt. Deon Marquis has been in command for around three and a half weeks. He was the commanding officer of the Rosthern detachment and served with Wakaw five years before that.

A meeting date for citizens living in the Bjorkdale district about the fate of their local school has been set. It will be held at the Bjorkdale School March 8 at 7 p.m.

A long-talked about proposal to bring in formalized neighbourhoods to North Battleford is moving forward at City Hall. Council has given its approval to a resolution supporting the Formalizing Neighbourhoods project.

The warm spell that has arrived in North Battleford this week is starting to do a number on the city’s roads. The melt is creating a lot of puddles around the city, but it is also creating a lot of potholes and city officials are worried.

Once again for the third year in a row, the North Battleford Leisure Services department is hosting the week of Wintertainment in the Battlefords. Events are taking place from Feb 19 to 26 and a wide range of family-oriented activities are scheduled.

The local cab company in the Battlefords is being sold. Crown Cab (2011) Ltd. is being sold by the present owners Imran Zaka and Bazgha Imran, to the numbered company 102012062 Saskatchewan Ltd.

It looks as if the 100-year-old armoury that formerly housed the Battlefords Trade and Education Centre could see new life as a craft brewery.

The Nipawin Hawks saw their season high 13-game win streak come to an end, but they still wrapped up another successful 2-1 week.

The Melfort Mustangs finished the week with a 1-2 record, finally snapping their long eight-game losing streak. Against Nipawin The Mustangs traveled to Nipawin Feb. 7 to take on their rival Hawks.
