The '80s. Fat wallets, fast cars, flashy clothes. It was a time when the economy was booming, credit cards were being maxed out, and indoor malls were thriving because of it.

A major investment in Humboldt's roads and sidewalks and a new tax levy to help pay for that infrastructure highlight the city's 2014 budget, adopted by council at a meeting on March 24.

The City of Humboldt has accepted the resignation of Steve Brown, director of finance, from the municipal organization. Brown's final day of work with the City is May 28.

Fifty-five City of North Battleford employees from City Hall, Public Works, Parks, Recreation, Fire, and Municipal Enforcement hit the ground running with garbage bags and trash sticks in an effort to clean up as much litter as possible Wednesday.

Six traffic related complaints were among the more than 30 calls for service/occurrences dealt with by Battlefords RCMP between 6 a.m. Wednesday, April 9 and 6 a.m. Thursday, April 10. Wednesday 7:57 a.m.

There were two evenings of advance polls for the 2014 byelection April 8 and 9. In total, 134 people took advantage of voting early. In the last by-election in 2011, 144 voters attended the advance poll. Byelection day is on Wednesday, April 16.

Safety was the focus for an early morning breakfast in North Battleford Tuesday. The Contractor Safety Awareness Association, in partnership with Saskatchewan Common Ground Alliance, held their annual Contractor Safety Breakfast at Gold Ridge Centre.
