The St. Walburg Eagles have another chance to win the North Saskatchewan River Hockey League title Friday. Last weekend the Meadow Lake Stampeders avoided losing the championship on home ice with a 5-4 overtime win in game five.

The Hafford Hawks can win the SPHL championship at the Civic Centre tomorrow. The Hawks won game three 5-2 at the Battleford Arena, setting up the potential for a series win tomorrow night.

The Battlefords AAA Midget Stars will once again play an all-or-nothing game this post season. In the first round they beat the Saskatoon Contacts at home in game five to advance and face the league-leading Tisdale Trojans.

The 92 nd Annual Men’s Open Bonspiel begins play tonight (March 19) at Twin Rivers Curling Club in the Northland Power Curling Centre with draws at 6:30 and 9 p.m.

Last week was definitely an emotional one for the Humboldt Broncos. The team saw its season come to an end in game four of its Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Wild Card playoff series against the Weyburn Red Wings.

Battlefords AAA Stars forward Owen Lamb was the easy choice for first star of game two.

The SPHL final between the Meota Combines and Hafford Hawks is tied at one after an overtime win on the road by Hafford in game two. Game one was in Hafford Friday, where the Hawks hadn’t lost a game all season.

The Battlefords North Stars probably deserved a better fate Sunday night at the Civic Centre.

The Battlefords North Stars have advanced to the opening round of the playoffs. After dropping game four in Estevan, the North Stars had to win at home last night or face an early elimination from the playoffs.
