The Game Changer

The Battlefords AAA Stars are on to round two. After dropping game four in Saskatoon, the Stars rebounded for a 4-3 win in the decisive game five to eliminate the Contacts.

After three games, the Humboldt Broncos trailed the Weyburn Red Wings two games to one in their Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Wild Card Series. The Broncos were victorious in the first game, but the Red Wings won the next two.

Despite a good turnout, Team Saskatchewan lost against Team Canada (8-7) and won against Newfoundland-Labrador (7-5) to take bronze in the Tim Horton’s Brier in Calgary on March 8.

The Battlefords North Stars have to win tomorrow night. Should they lose, the Estevan Bruins will end their season.

For the second year in a row the Battlefords North Stars did battle with the Estevan Bruins in their first playoff series. And for the second year in a row, they lost game one to the Bruins at home. The North Stars also rebounded to win game two.

The Battlefords Stars looked like a team that couldn't wait to start the playoffs Thursday against the Saskatoon Contacts when Layne Young scored only seconds into game one.

What has been a breakthrough season for the Battlefords Sharks in female midget AAA hockey ended Sunday night in Prince Albert.

Connor Sych was faced with a tough decision on his hockey future. A ninth round pick of the Edmonton Oil Kings in the 2012 Western Hockey League bantam draft, Sych could have played in the WHL for one of the league’s perennial contenders.

The Battlefords North Stars (28-20-6-2) travelled to Kindersley for their final regular season game of the year Tuesday and beat the Klippers (37-12-2-4) 6-5 in a shootout. It was anything but an easy win, however.
