Peewee AA Barons After beating Prince Albert in the first provincial series and edging Humboldt in the second series, the Peewee AA Barons needed overtime to advance to a 1-0 series lead in the Centre Four Hockey League provincial final.

In the standings it was a meaningless game, but tell that to the players on the ice.

The Battlefords Kinsmen Orcas swim team capped off a successful meet at A provincials in Prince Albert Feb. 4 to 6 by winning the small team title with a point total of 185.

Denholm Curling Club held a cash bonspiel Jan.29 and 30 with eight teams entered. According to those in attendance, the bonspiel was a success and everyone in attendance had fun. Spectators were treated to some fabulous shots and exciting games.

All four series in the North Saskatchewan River Hockey League are on the verge of being three-game sweeps. The first place Maidstone Jets beat Paradise Hill 5-1 and 5-4.

The northern and southern senior playdowns were held Feb. 10 to 13 and although their were two local teams at northerns, they will not be competing at provincials in Regina.

After the Cliff Lee bidding war, it turned out to be a pretty quiet off season. Detroit made a few moves and if Canadian slugger Justin Morneau can shake out the cobwebs from his last concussion the Twins will be in the mix.

You win some, you lose some. The Humboldt Broncos split their two away games this week, coming away from their western road trip with a loss to the Kindersley Klippers and a win over the Battlefords North Stars.

The regular season is almost over, and they're not letting up on the gas. The Humboldt Broncos scored two more wins at home this week, one over one of the strongest teams in the league this season.

North Stars, coaches and fans alike have been waiting for this to happen since the calendar turned to 2011, but perhaps two players, Blake Tatchell and Colin Phaneuf are the happiest to have shaken their slumps.
