ESTEVAN - The Estevan Bruins have announced a change to the list of speakers for the 2024 Sportsman's Dinner.

Originally Jeremy Roenick and Mike Commodore were originally scheduled to speak at the fundraiser, slated for April 13 at Affinity Place. But due to what the club called "unforeseen circumstances", Roenick is unable to attend the event. Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Chris Chelios will appear in Roenick's place.

Chelios is widely considered the greatest American-born player in NHL history, and one of the top defencemen ever in the sport. In 1,651 career regular-season games, he scored 185 goals and had 948 points.

He won the Norris Trophy as the league's top defenceman three times (1988-89, 1992-93 and 1995-96) and captured the Stanley Cup three times, in 1986 with the Montreal Canadiens, and in 2002 and 2008 with the Detroit Red Wings. His No. 7 was recently retired by the Chicago Blackhawks.

He was also named to the league's first all-star team five times and the second all-star team twice, and in 2013 was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Chelios is no stranger to Estevan, either. He spent two season playing for the Moose Jaw Canucks in the SJHL from 1979-1981.

Commodore is still slated to appear at the event.
