Estevan Bruins announce Sportsman's Dinner guest speakers

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Bruins have announced the guest speakers for the 2024 edition of the Sportsman's Dinner.

According to information announced during Friday's home game against the Melfort Mustangs, former NHLers Jeremy Roenick and Mike Commodore will entertain the crowd on April 13 at Affinity Place.

Roenick was a high-scoring and physical centre who spent two decades in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks, Phoenix Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks. He notched 513 goals and 703 assists for 1,216 points in 1,363 career games. He also added 1,463 penalty minutes.

He also developed a reputation for being a candid, entertaining and outspoken person both on and off the ice. Since retiring, he has released two books chronicling his life in hockey.  

Commodore spent parts of 11 seasons in the NHL, amassing 23 goals and 83 assists for 106 points to go along with 683 penalty minutes in 484 career games. He helped the Carolina Hurricanes win the Stanley Cup in 2006 and also was part of the Calgary Flames team that reached the Stanley Cup final in 2004.

He won a gold medal with Team Canada in the 2007 World Championships.  

Commodore also played for the New Jersey Devils, Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning.

The dinner is the Bruins' largest fundraiser of the year. Cocktails will be served at 5:30 p.m. and supper will be an hour later. Tickets are $125 each or $1,000 for a corporate table.
