God is a Poet who whispers of love

God is a poet who whispers words in our ears and puts thoughts in our hearts. Recently my wife and I went on a family visit. Our two year old granddaughter said, "Grandpa Ken is coming. He loves me.

God is a poet who whispers words in our ears and puts thoughts in our hearts.

Recently my wife and I went on a family visit. Our two year old granddaughter said, "Grandpa Ken is coming. He loves me." And I thought, "Wow! If only we really felt, 'God loves me.'"

The Talmud says, "Every blade of grass has its angel that bends over it and whispers, 'Grow, grow.'" Our very being imitates that blade of grass and urges us to become, to be what God has whispered in our very D.N.A.

A few examples might help here. I was watching Derrick Jeter recently. A ball was hit to second with a runner on first. Jeter jumped up; the ball hit his glove, then popped out. He picked up the ball, tagged second and threw to first for a double play.

At first I was upset, thinking, "He could have caught that ball." The sportscaster said if Jeter had dropped the ball purposely, the umpire might have to make a ruling.

It was second nature to Jeter. He would not catch that ball. He's too good to miss an obvious double play. Jays fans would just have to live with it. Then I realized that Jeter is one of the best examples of using God's gifts and talents, even though on that day I first thought him a cheater.

Another example came to mind as I watched El Divo perform Leonard Cohen's "Broken Alleluia". "I wonder which of these singers is the weakest member?" Then I realized there was none who was weaker.

When we use God's gift to do God's will we are like that. There is no weaker one. One of the singers enjoys his work so much he can't help smiling. That needs to be us.

Recently on Face book I got in touch with a cousin I had not seen in years. Looking at his home page I saw entries about recipes and cooking. That is his gift!

The greatest thrill, rush of adrenalin, is when we create something beautiful! Even if it is merely dropping the ball.

Conversely, "The greatest treachery is found when we abandon ourselves, becoming deaf to the whispers of our spirits and blind to the powerful potential therein." Joaquin Mariel Espinosa

How do we become BEST at what God is whispering to us to do? Every morning one hour before sunrise the birds gather in the trees outside my window to practice their singing. By the time we awake to hear them, they are flawless! I've often wondered about dropping a hint to our church choir.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "Let us be silent, that we may hear the whispers of the Gods." What is God whispering to each of us? Let us support each other's gifts so all creation will benefit.

"Every heart sings a song, incomplete, until another heart whispers back. Those who wish to sing always find a song. At the touch of a lover, everyone becomes a poet." Plato

May you have the joy of knowing God's touch.
