Maidstone– Paul Lawrence has been with Baytex Energy Corp.’s Maidstone area Soda Lake operations since the beginning, when the company purchased the area from Dorset in 1997.

Lawrence, 55, is originally from Red Water, Alta. He was born in Fort McMurray.

“I came to Lashburn to this job when I was 30. I started out with Texaco Resources,” he said. There he worked as a roustabout on a crew truck.

Esso bought them out. He was then in Bon Accord, 20 minutes from Red Water. “Dorset bought out that piece from Esso. I took the move. My wife is from Prince Albert, so this got us halfway.”

Paul has been married to Donna for 35 years this year.

Lawrence used to play hockey, but gave that up a few years ago. “I like fishing, tinkering with cars, welding,” he said.

For several years he was active with Scouts.
