A new year, a new you

A new year usually comes with a variety of resolutions, most often in the form of a promise to oneself to alter a bad habit or a determination to become healthier. From quitting smoking to losing weight, New Year's resolutions are plentiful.

Jenna Jensen, owner of Built 4 Life, is excited to offer her second annual Weight Loss Challenge for those in the southeast interested in starting the New Year off a little healthier.

A new year usually comes with a variety of resolutions, most often in the form of a promise to oneself to alter a bad habit or a determination to become healthier. From quitting smoking to losing weight, New Year's resolutions are plentiful.

Making the resolution is easy; however, following through with it can be difficult. Life can sometimes get in the way and it sometimes becomes tiresome to stay committed. The local gym, Built 4 Life, owned by Jenna Jensen, understands this and has organized a 2nd annual Weight Loss Challenge after the success of last year's program to run between Jan. 6th and April. 6th.

"I had almost 30 people register for the challenge, and over 130 lbs were lost in total!" Jensen exclaims.

Jensen decided to run such a program at Built 4 Life because she wanted the community to be able to take part in a fun, positive experience, which helps people take control of their health and lives in the New Year.

"...it was just to get the community involved in something fun, to set their mind to be more active and healthy, to provide incentive to achieve their fitness goals, and maybe bring out the competitive edge to lose those extra holiday pounds," Jensen explained.

Registration is currently open at the gym for the Weight Loss Challenge and will be open through the official weigh-in during the week of Jan. 6 to Jan. 11. The challenge costs $65, but comes with online support, weekly weigh-ins, and a chance to win a number of great prizes.

The other option available for people interested in the challenge is the "Total Package" at $250. This comes with a three month membership to Built 4 Life, two personal training sessions with Adam Swanson who will help get you on the right track in your weight loss goals, and free access to certain fitness classes offered at the gym, as well as the benefits of the simple registration.

The overall goal is to become happier and healthier through exercise. An added incentive for people wanting to gain better health comes with prizes offered to the top three people to lose the greatest percentage of body weight.

First place will win a $1,000 travel voucher, second place will win $500 cash, while third place is given a Built 4 Life voucher valuing $65.

The prizes last year were the same and Jensen says the winners were thankful for the prizes, which were rewards that could keep on giving: "... the runner up put the cash towards a gym membership and has been coming just about every day since! Constantly reaching new goals and feeling better than ever!"

A beneficial way to stay on track this initiative created at Built 4 Life focuses not only on helping people accomplish their New Year's resolutions, but focuses on creating a healthier you.

"... I hope to see lots of new faces in the gym come the New Year, and if you need a little motivation to reach those resolutions, sign up for the Challenge!" Jensen exclaimed.
