Real estate agent and auctioneer Winston Bailey has announced his candidacy for the local by-election on May 18.

As a resident of Weyburn for over 30 years, Bailey and his wife Jean have two grown children and two grandchildren living in Weyburn as well. If elected to City Council, Bailey said he wants to help continue to make Weyburn the best city in Saskatchewan to live and said that in order to do so Council must find ways to bring affordable housing to the city.

"I bring with me, I would hope, awareness because of my work that I think I can share in regards to housing and building development," said Bailey.

Bailey sits on Saskatchewan Real Estate Association's Government Relations committee, whose mandate is to find ways to bring affordable housing and rental properties to the province through investors.

Bailey said he is in "total support" of building a new hospital in Weyburn and wants to work to put it in place. He also wants to work with minor sports organizations to continue to deliver appropriate facilities so that "all children can have access to the sport of their choice," including the construction of a new football field.

Bailey feels he could bring a different point of view to Council and is committed to being open-minded and approachable.

The nomination period for the by-election is April 6 to 20.
