After a string of arson fires in Weyburn, including two in a row on Sunday evening, Weyburn Police Service have arrested a 20-year-old man in the matter.
At approx 9 p.m. June 17, police received a complaint of a camper on fire, situated next to Fletcher's Funeral Home on Fourth Street N. in Weyburn. The camper was destroyed as well as the garage it was parked beside. There were a number of vehicles that received damage. The value of damage will be extensive.
While fire crews were investigating this fire, another call came in.
This second fire was reported at 11:25 p.m. on Birch Drive.
According to the Fire Department, when fire fighters arrived, the boat and shed were fully involved, and the adjacent garage had started to catch on fire.
The boat, shed and garage were extensively damaged as well as its contents, including a vehicle. There will be extensive monetary loss to the owner.
There was no damage to the residence, and there were no injuries in either fire.
During the investigation, city police arrested a 20-year-old man responsible for setting the fires. He was held in custody until his appearance in court on Tuesday morning.
These fires along with a number of other fires set a few weeks ago are still under investigation. Police feel all of these fires are related and at this point police are not looking for additional suspects.
During an earlier series of fires, police responded on May 9 to a set fire on Government Road, and then the following day police and fire crews responded to two alley fires in the northeast area, and while at the second one, a call came in about a dumpster fire near the Weyburn Junior High; all of these were determined to be arson fires.
