Saskatchewan country musician Codie Prevost is currently working on his fourth CD and will be playing two shows in Arcola on April 12 and April 13.

Saskatchewan musician Codie Prevost will be heading to Arcola for two nights of entertainment at the MacMurray Theatre.

Prevost, originally from Archerwill, SK. now resides in Saskatoon. Prevost currently has three albums under his belt and is working on a fourth CD in Vancouver, which will be out later this year and is very excited to be finishing the album.

"I'm excited to get more music out," Prevost stated.

The country music singer has previously been awarded both Song and Single of the Year in 2009 at the Saskatchewan Country Music Association (SCMA) Awards for "Spin." Prevost has earned the titles of Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the year at the SCMA's in back to back years, 2009 and 2010, while also winning Album of the Year for in 2009. Not only is he a provincially acclaimed artist he has been nominated for the Canadian Country Music Association Rising Star award in both 2011 and 2012.

The artist enjoys writing many of his own songs and has contacts in Nashville, which he enjoys collaborating with in order to create top quality country music.

"For me as an artist something like that, to play in a small town theatre is a real treat as far as sound goes and the setting of a theatre brings a chance to tell the stories behind the songs while interacting with the crowd," Prevost explained.

"It's pretty great to see small communities keep their theatres alive. It's a blessing for us as artists."

"It will be a duo show, so me and another guitar player," Prevost said, "It should be pretty fun."

"There's always such great sound in these older theatres. And with a smaller stage it's a different experience because it isn't a full band. You get more of an in depth understanding of the artist and who they are."

"The concerts are very interactive and you can get the crowd singing along. It's a lot of fun with a one on one experience because it's such a comfortable environment for everyone and is a blast to play."

Excited about the opportunity to meet people in the community and perform in a theatre with great acoustics Prevost is eager to arrive in Arcola.

Concerts will be held at 7:30 p.m. on both Friday, April 12, and Saturday, April 13. Tickets are available from any Optimist member including Blake Brownridge and Glen Lawson. At $20 each all funds raised will go to the Arcola Optimists who are planning on updating the inside of the theatre.

"We were lucky enough to have two major sponsors. Precision Ag is sponsoring the show on Friday and the Arcola Co-op is sponsoring Saturday night. Without groups like these it would be a big investment for the club. Both organizations will be there for the event as well," Blake Brownridge, Optimist President, stated.

Recently the Optimist's have raised enough to upgrade their sound system and projector. Next on their list is going to be inside renovations including the front entry way, the carpet, as well as putting in new seats in place of the current ones.

"We hope to have the majority of the renovations complete by the fall," Brownridge said.

"We use the theatre here for high school drama and it's nice to have a place in a small town to host plays or musicians who want to come out and sing. We're hoping it's a place that we can annually hold a concert showcasing Saskatchewan talent. Last year we had Blake Berglund perform and that went really well, so we thought we'd hold another concert," Brownridge explained.

"It's important to them [Saskatchewan musicians]. They want to get out into small towns, but the facilities are not always there."

The Optimists hope to see many attend and are looking forward to a great performance by a fantastic Saskatchewan artist.
