REGINA — The man in custody in the United States after disappearing from Saskatchewan with two children and his common-law spouse now has another charge filed against him in Canada
Benjamin Martin Moore has been charged with one count of breach of a weapons prohibition order after Shaunavon RCMP, with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP General Investigation Section, executed a search warrant on his residence on Aug. 11. The Saskatchewan RCMP says police officers located and seized three crossbows as well as multiple arrows and arrowheads.
This is the second charge being laid against Benjamin Martin Moore in Canada as part of the Saskatchewan RCMP investigation that began in early August 2022, states the RCMP’s Sept. 2 release. On Aug. 9, Saskatchewan RCMP investigators charged Moore with failing to report information to a registration center within seven days after a change of main or secondary residence, as required by the Sex Offender Information Registration Act.
Benjamin Martin Moore will face these charges upon his return to Canada after being released from custody in the United States.
RCMP noted, however, the extradition of Benjamin Martin Moore from the United States to Canada is not being considered at this time as police investigations in both countries are ongoing.
Currently, Benjamin Martin Moore and his common-law partner remain in custody in the United States.
An amber alert was issued Aug. 9 in Saskatchewan and in South Dakota when Moore was believed to have crossed the border into the United States with his common-law spouse and two children. Meade County Sheriff’s Office announced late that night that the four individuals were located in Sturgis.
Saskatchewan RCMP General Investigation Section has carriage of the investigation into both the allegations against Benjamin Moore in Canada and the events leading up to his departure from Canada with his common-law spouse and two children.
Privacy provisions prevent RCMP from sharing information about the children, but they have confirmed the children are safe and are receiving proper supports.
