The Estevan Legion and Estevan Elks, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Army Cadet Corps marked the 102nd anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge on April 6.

The day was filled with numerous activities including the presentation by Capt. Craig Bird, flag dedication and the documentary Vimy Ridge: Heaven to Hell at the Legion.

Private collectors Jeff Gudmundson of Estevan, Larry Mass of Lemberg, Sask. as well as Capt. Bird have provided historical items from their personal collections to help the public better understand and envision the realities of World War I.

Later in the afternoon the wreaths were placed at the cenotaph.

Next week’s Mercury and Southeast Lifestyles will have more on the Estevan activities dedicated to the day when the deaths and casualties of members of the Canadian Corps during the Battle of Vimy Ridge are commemorated.
