On Nov. 24, police received a number of calls of cattle running at large near the Livestock Exchange. Police attended to the area and assisted livestock employees rounding up some of the cattle and slowing traffic. A few minor accidents were reported which did result in one cow having to be destroyed, due to the injuries it had received.
City police attended to an accident on Nov. 19 which had occurred near the Weyburn Comprehensive School. The investigation determined a 17-year-old male had been driving and lost control due to speed and the conditions of the road, hitting two parked vehicles. There were no injuries, though one vehicle had to be towed from the scene due to extensive damage. The male driver was charged with exceeding a reasonable and safe speed.
Police received a call from a School Safety Patrol at the Junior High on Nov. 21, who advised police of three vehicles driving through an area where the school crossing guards were stopping traffic to allow children to safely cross the road. Police are investigating and will be trying to determine the identities of the drivers involved and the circumstances of the incident. Motorists are reminded use caution in school zones and obey the directions of school guards. They are stopping traffic to increase the safety of the schoolchildren.
Police observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner on Nov. 23. The vehicle was stopped shortly after and a 25-year-old Weyburn male was charged with speeding, disobeying stop signs and driving without a valid license. The vehicle was also seized.
City police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Coteau Avenue and Foster Street the afternoon of Nov. 23. The accident was caused after a vehicle which had stopped to make a turn was struck from behind by another vehicle. There were no injuries though one vehicle received sufficient damage to require it to be towed from the scene. A 27-year-old Weyburn male was charged with exceeding a reasonable and safe speed.
On Nov. 23, police attended to a report of a hit and run that had occurred in the Tim Horton's parking lot.
Witnesses to the incident describe the suspect vehicle as a 2002 -2005 Chevrolet extended-cab truck, red in color. The incident remains under investigation.
On November 24th at about 11:30 p.m., police observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner and which almost hit the police vehicle before being stopped. The driver exhibited signs of impairment and was brought to the police office where the investigation determined he was over .08. The 44-year-old male driver was charged with impaired driving and exceeding .08 and will be appearing in court later in December.
Motorists are reminded that with the Christmas season approaching police presence and traffic enforcement will be increased and the Weyburn Police Service wishes everyone a great holiday season but do not drink and drive.
