During your grocery shopping this week, remember to pick up a few extra items for the Food Bank Drive, which is happening Saturday, September 24, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Thanks to the Weyburn Postal workers, the "Stamp Out" Hunger campaign makes it as easy as possible for you to donate to this important cause - the Salvation Army Food Bank of Weyburn and area.

The food bank has seen an increase of approximately five more families per month who need assistance, with totals reaching 20 families per month. This could be due to the recent flooding, which has placed a strain on quite a few families. There is also a higher volume of people needing assistance due to the financial demands of sending kids to school.

The most needed contributions are nut-free healthy school snacks. Donations of juice boxes, fruit cups, fruit snacks are required at this time, and the food bank is always in need of jams, peanut butter and cereal. Also, keeping the holiday season in mind, boxes of stuffing, gravy mixes and mixed veggies are also very helpful.

"We are pleased with the postal workers who work so hard at helping our efforts and it is always so rewarding to see a full food bank again once the drive is complete," said Melissa Mailman, Lieutenant/Pastor of the Salvation Army.

By leaving a box of non-perishable items (or easily-stored garden produce) in front of your home at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 24 (so that it is visible from the street), you can do your part to replenish the food bank's shelves. If you have a post office box, please drop your donations off at the Weyburn Post office during regular business hours.
