Dickens Village Festival is fast approaching. It will be held on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Decorations all around town have begun to be put up and judging for decorations will be held on Nov. 28 between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., so time is running out to participate in the competition.

The competition is both a way to get into the holiday spirits, but it also provides a way for the community to become involved in Dickens. With so many people travelling to take in the unique weekend, it is a great way to show Christmas spirit and support the Dickens Village Festival.

Every year there are three categories, which businesses and homes can enter. The first category is the Traditional Christmas decorations. These include colours of green and red, lights, and may include a nativity scene.

Traditional Dickens or Victorian decorating is the next category. This one includes green garland, white lights, and red bows. This style is already seen dotting Main Street with the street lights draped in garland.

Finally there is the Novelty decorations category. This one includes all of the fun and crazy Christmas decorations available. Inflatable decorations and cartoon characters are some of the choices in this particular category.

Judging for each category looks at lights, decorations, and the overall presentation of the display. They look for the most aesthetically pleasing places presented and travel throughout the town looking for the best.
