Traffic in downtown Weyburn restricted due to theatre demo

Traffic restrictions in downtown Weyburn began on Monday afternoon, with the east side of Third Street blocked off in front of the Soo Theatre building to allow for demolition to begin.

WEYBURN – Due to the demolition of the Soo Theatre, the east side of Third Street NE in downtown Weyburn, and the east parking lane behind the theatre, was closed to traffic starting Monday.

Work crews set up fencing on Monday afternoon to block off the street in front of the theatre building, and Adair’s Demolition crews began work.

The company removed the front marquee first on Monday afternoon-evening, and then will begin on the building demo on Tuesday morning at the rear, due to the presence of wires in the back area.

An Adair's supervisor said the building could largely be down on Tuesday, and the work will then move to cleaning up the rubble and the property.

The City said this work is anticipated to take up to 20 days, weather permitting.

There will be local traffic only for the duration of the closure, and residents are asked to avoid the area if possible.
