The Weyburn Police Service received 71 calls for service during the week of Feb. 8-14, resulting in 16 traffic-related charges as well as seven charges laid under the Criminal Code of Canada. The week also included one charge being laid under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act and one charge under the Public Health Act for failing to comply with a Public Health Order.
On Monday, officers attended a local business to assist staff with removing an unwanted person. Officers spoke to the individual who left without further incident.
Officers also dealt with two individuals who were found to be breaching their conditions of release. One individual was charged and released while the other was held for court.
On Tuesday, officers were called to check on an elderly person who lived alone and was not able to be reached by phone. Police attended and found her to be okay. Officers also spoke to a homeowner after a concerned citizen notified police that a chimney appeared to be blocked by ice buildup.
WPS received a 911 call on Wednesday in which the caller requested assistance obtaining a phone number for a business. Police would like to remind the public that 911 is only to be used for emergencies. Police are also investigating a matter involving two individuals who reportedly threatened to cause harm to two other individuals.
Officers attended three separate traffic collisions on Thursday which did not involve injuries, but vehicles required towing and all three incidents resulted in charges under the Traffic Safety Act.
The day remained busy in regard to traffic as other motorists were also charged for traffic violations. Police also received a report of an assault that occurred on an earlier date. That matter is being investigated further.
On Friday, police received a report of a shed being broken into but no property was noted as missing. Late Friday evening, police were dispatched to a single vehicle collision, which resulted in the driver being charged with driving while impaired by a drug, and possessing a weapon dangerous to the public.
Early Saturday morning, police were dispatched to assist with an unwanted male outside a residence. While enroute, the intoxicated male suspect was located driving away and charged with impaired driving. Late afternoon, police were dispatched to a domestic dispute resulting in one individual being arrested and charged with assault.
Late Sunday evening-Monday morning, officers received a noise complaint and attended a residential apartment suite to speak to the occupants. Upon arrival officers noticed several individuals inside the suite and confirmed the majority did not reside there. In consultation with Public Health, the suite resident was charged under the Public Health Act for failing to comply with the Public Health Order.
