A new solar power project began in the RM of Weyburn

WEYBURN – The Pesakastew Solar Power Project was ready for construction in the spring in the RM of Weyburn, just southwest of Weyburn.

Weyburn has seen an increase in the number of calls to police and EMS about drug overdoses this year, and it’s just “the tip of the iceberg”, said Weyburn Police Chief Jamie Blunden, with the deadly drug fentanyl as the current problem.

Weyburn, the horse, was the winner of the $300,000 Gotham Stakes at the Aqueduct in New York, and was classified as Grade 2, earning Weyburn the possibility of qualifying for the 2021 Kentucky Derby.

Weyburn’s city council approved two applications for cannabis outlets in the city’s downtown core at their meeting on March 22.

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings received a devastating blow on March 22, along with many businesses in Weyburn, as the provincial government sent word they were not approving the plans for a return-to-play for the SJHL.

The Weyburn Beavers announced they would not return to Tom Laing Park for the Western Canadian Baseball League for the 2021 season due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

The top vote-getters in the James Weir People’s Choice art competition were announced live on March 25 via Facebook, and included in first place, Kendra Garbe; Melanie Hiske in second, and Olha Matiusheva in third.
