Weyburn Wildlife Federation presents awards for hunting, fishing

The Weyburn Wildlife Federation presented the trophies for the top hunting and fishing results for 2022 at the Fred Garner Memorial Trophy and Banquet Night.

WEYBURN – The trophies for the top hunting and fishing results for 2022 were presented at the Fred Garner Memorial Trophy and Banquet Night, hosted by the Weyburn Wildlife Federation on Saturday evening at McKenna Hall.

The awards for the best fish caught in 2022 are as follows.

The trophy for biggest Northern Pike, sponsored by Barber Motors in memory of Ron Barber, went to Troy Kincaid, 13 pounds 2 ounces.

For walleye, sponsored by Troy and Cortney Kincaid and family, the trophy went to Troy Kincaid, 12 lbs. 8 oz.

The trophy for perch, sponsored by Weyburn Dairy Queen, went to Sawyer Knoll, 1 lb. 12 ozs.

The trophy for the biggest walleye from Nickle Lake, sponsored by Nickle Lake Park Board, went to Joel Benson, for a fish weighing 7 lbs. 2 oz.

In the junior category, sponsored by Ryan Englot, the trophy for perch went to Sawyer Knoll, 1 lb. 12 oz.; for pike, Joel Benson, 7.1 lbs.; and for walleye, Joel Benson, 7 lbs. 2 oz.

The trophies for bird game were presented as follows:

For pheasant, sponsored by Walter and Lorraine Tytlandsvik in memory of their son Todd: Bosttin Mutrie, 37 bars.

For a goose, sponsored by York Jewelers: Cindy Paslawski, 14.17 lbs.

In the hunting categories the following trophies were presented.

For whitetail deer: typical buck, sponsored by Travelodge, the trophy went to Bruce Rosiak, 149 0/8.

There were no entries for a non-typical buck, or for a buck taken by archery.

The junior trophy for whitetail buck went to Joel Benson, 138 0/8.

For mule deer: typical buck, sponsored by IZAN Tire, the trophy went to Colton Tochor, 173 7/8 archery.

For a non-typical buck, sponsored by the Kenway family, the trophy went to Jeff Chinski, 187 5/8, 83.8 per cent.

For a buck taken by archery, sponsored by WWF Archery Club, the winner was Colton Tochor, 173 7/8.

The junior trophy for a mule deer buck went to Layne Watson, 147 4/8.

The trophy for elk went to Brian Maas, 328 3/8.

The trophy for moose, sponsored by Shaun and Terra Ortman, went to Ryder Watson, 117 2/8.

The trophy for black bear, sponsored by Great Plains Ford, went to Russ Scharnatta, 20- 7/16 (Henry Kelsey Award).

Two Grand Slam awards were presented, sponsored by Smoky Ridge Farms: Lee Watson, for a cow moose, mule deer buck and whitetail buck; and Logan Millar, cow moose, mule deer buck and whitetail buck.

The trophy for the best big game animal taken by a woman, sponsored by Weyburn Oilwomen’s Association, went to Becky Benson, mule deer buck, 175 7/8.

The Doug Lanz Memorial Award, for the best overall big game animal taken by a muzzleloader, went to Bosttin Mutrie, for a black bear, 17 2/16.

The awards for photography, sponsored by RP Automotive, went to Haley Anderson for wildlife, and to Judy Olfert, for best scenery.

The Fred Garner Memorial Award for the Outstanding Member of the Year for the Weyburn Wildlife Federation was presented to Terra Hartley Ortman.
