It didn't take Chris Lewgood very long to go out and fill what he described as the Estevan Bruins' biggest need at the SJHL trade deadline.

The Bruins made a big splash on Tuesday night, acquiring left winger Michael Sagen and futures from the La Ronge Ice Wolves for defenceman Brett Blatz.

It's the first major deal in the league leading up to the trade deadline on Friday.

Sagen, 20, joins his third SJHL club. The scoring winger had been dealt to La Ronge by the Melville Millionaires in the off-season. The Kenaston native has 13 goals and 28 points in 28 games this year.

The former Regina Pat is also coming off back-to-back 30-point seasons in Melville.

With league scoring leader Austin Daae occupying the left wing spot on the top line, Sagen will most likely play on the second unit, possibly with the likes of Austin Roesslein and Lynnden Pastachak. He should provide a major injection of offence to a team that certainly needs it.

Blatz, meanwhile, is a 20-year-old defender who was acquired from Kindersley last year in the Austin Yano trade. The Saskatoon native has a goal and nine points in 28 games this season.

Lewgood mentioned on Monday that he might bring in a depth defender for the right cost, and now that the club has only six defencemen, you would think that becomes another priority before Friday's 11:59 p.m. deadline.
