The Canadian curling season begins in August and ends in May 2021 and is governed by Curling Canada, which was formerly the Canadian Curling Association.
However due to the COVID-19 pandemic, several events for this fall have already have had to been cancelled including the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, which was scheduled to take place in Canmore, Alta., in November.
The 2019-20 season came to an abrupt end, seeing many of the world championship tournaments cancelled.
Locally in Carlyle, the ice is usually installed in October and the season starts soon after the plant is fired up and ready to go. The board will be meeting in the next couple of weeks to decide dates and times to get the 2020-21 season up and running and will be reviewing the guidelines put forth by the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
Also to be considered will be direction from CurlSask, which is the voice of curling in the province, and giving insight to the many curling clubs into what the season will look like.
The Carlyle Club had over 100 members for the 2019-20 curling season and featured regular league curling taking place on Monday and Thursday nights, drop-in play on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and after school programs for youth curling.
