Local stock car racers win points after doubleheader

Two nights of stock car racing took place at the Estevan Motor Speedway on Aug. 24 and 25. A championship night was held on Aug. 25, with many Weyburn stock car racers earning points in their season.

In the hobby stock feature race, Rodney Pickering won third, Cody Kravanya took fifth, Cory Evans placed eighth and Samantha Evans won 13th. Cole Bourassa didn't finish and Dylan Crozier from Yellow Grass was unable to start.

During the hobby stock heats, Rodney Pickering won fourth and Samantha Evans took sixth in heat three. Dylan Crozier won second and Cole Bourassa took third in heat two. Cody Kravanya won third and Cory Evans placed sixth in heat one.

For the stock car feature race, Sterling LaBatte won fifth, and Robert Pickering and James Frayn did not finish. James competed in the trophy dash, and placed third.

In the stock car heats, James Frayn won first and Sterling LaBatte finished fifth in heat two. Robert Pickering placed sixth in heat one.

Kelly Bauman competed in the modified category. He did not finish in the feature race. He won fourth in heat four.

There was also a regular points race on Aug. 24. In the hobby stock feature race, Dylan Crozier won fourth, Cole Bourassa took sixth, Cory Evans placed eighth and Samantha Evans won 13th. Rodney Pickering did not finish and Cody Kravanya did not start.

For the trophy dash race, Dylan Crozier won third and Cory Evans placed fourth. Cody Kravanya did not finish.

During the heats for the hobby stock competition, Rodney Pickering did not finish heat four, Dylan Crozier won second in heat three and Cory Evans won second in heat two. For heat one, Cody Kravanya won first, Cole Bourassa won third and Samantha Evans took seventh.

For the stock car feature race, Sterling LaBatte placed 11th and James Frayn took 13th, while Robert Pickering did not finish. Then in the trophy dash, James Frayn won second and Sterling LaBatte finished fifth.

In heat two, Sterling LaBatte won first and James Frayn finished second. In heat one, Robert Pickering did not finish.

Kelly Bauman competed in the modified category. He did not finish in the feature race and placed fifth in the B-main competition. Bauman also placed fifth in heat three.

The point standings for the Estevan Motor Speedway was released after the doubleheader. For the hobby stock competition, Rodney Pickering is in third with 263 points, followed by Cole Bourassa in fifth, Cory Evans in sixth, Cody Kravanya in ninth, Dylan Crozier in 16th, Samantha Evans won 17th, Ryan Swenson from Midale in 19th and Rocky Crozier in 30th.

For the stock car standings, Sterling LaBatte is placed ninth, followed by James Frayn in 10th, Robert Pickering in 12th, Brendon LaBatte in 20th and Dale LaBatte in 20th. The only local modified racer is Kelly Bauman and he is placed 17th overall in the standings.

There won't be any races at the Estevan Motor Speedway for over a month. There is a special event, "The Eve of Destruction", set for Saturday, Sept. 15. During this evening, locals can watch a demo derby that includes a combine demolition derby and car rollover contest.

There is a "Kickin' Up the Dirt" race on Saturday, Sept. 22, where modified racers can win $1,000. There will also be INEX Legend Cars from the Dakota Legends Tour Race at the track during that evening. The final race of the year is the Enduro Race on Sunday, Sept. 23.
