Midget AA Bruins get back on track with two wins

The Estevan Apex midget AA Bruins are back on the winning track after suffering just their second regulation time loss of the season.

The midget AAs trounced the Moose Jaw Warriors 8-2 on Jan. 18 at Affinity Place, three days after suffering a 4-2 loss to the Notre Dame Argos in Wilcox.

Kieran Stewart scored twice and Chase Gedak also scored to give Estevan a 3-0 lead after the first period against Moose Jaw.

They continued to role in the second, with Kaden Chrest scoring twice and Cade Bendtsen and Tayce Miller also scoring for a 7-0 lead. Joey Meredith’s third period goal was sandwiched between tallies for Moose Jaw.

Jackson Miller had 14 saves for Estevan.

The Bruins were back on the ice Wednesday night in Weyburn, and came away with a 3-0 win.

Trey Stovin and Bendtsen scored in the first period for Estevan, and Clay McKersie had a goal six minutes into the second. From there, the Bruins clamped down defensively.

Logan Nagel made 28 saves in goal to get the shutout for Estevan, whose record now stands at 27-2-1-1.

The Estevan TS&M bantam AA Bruins most recent game was an 8-1 loss to the Warman Wildcats on Jan. 19 at Affinity Place.

The game was scoreless after the first, and Warman led 3-0 after two periods. Spencer Copeland had the only goal for Estevan.

Keagan Carley made 40 saves in the game.

The Estevan Meter peewee AA Bruins split weekend home games with the Melville Millionaires, losing 7-1 on Jan. 18 but recovering to win 6-2 the next day.

Ryder Miller had Estevan’s lone goal on Saturday late in the first period to leave Estevan down 2-1. But Melville would score once more in the first and pull away with four more the rest of the way.

Chase Borreson was in goal for Estevan.

Melville led 1-0 after the first period in the second game, but Estevan responded with four in the second. Payton Phillips scored twice for the Bruins in the second period, and Kobe Wotta and Carson Deichert also scored. The Bruins pulled away in the third with goals by Carter Hirsch and Gunner Moore.

Amy Swayze was in goal for Estevan.

The Estevan Western Star Signature Hotel Tier 1 atom AA Bruins went 3-1 at a tournament in Regina on the weekend.

The Bruins went 3-0 in the round robin. Their first game was a 6-3 victory over the Regina Blues. Estevan was down 2-0 after the first period, but then scored three times in each of the second and third. Jayden Chernoff led the way offensively with a hat trick, and Cameron Milbrandt had two goals and two assists. Boston Tait notched the other goal.

Their second game was a 5-4 victory over the Martensivlle Snipers in a game that Estevan led 5-1 at one point in the third. Jaxson Orsted had two goals and two assists in the game, and Milbrandt, Broden Henry and Merek Wilhelm also scored.

The Bruins finished the round robin with a 4-3 win over the Saskatoon Flyers Fire. Henry scored the winner with less than five minutes to play in the third. Chernoff, Orsted and Milbrandt also had goals.

Estevan’s tournament ended in a 6-1 loss to the Martensville Villains. Henry had Estevan’s lone goal in the second period

Addison Wanner was in goal for the first and the third games. Easton Pushie was the goalie for the second and fourth games.
