Peewee AA Bruins force deciding game

With their backs against the wall, the Estevan Sherritt Coal Bruins delivered with a 6-3 win in Weyburn in peewee AA action on Sunday.

The victory over the Weyburn Youngfellows forced a third and deciding game in their South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League semifinal, which was to be played last night at Spectra Place.
The Bruins had lost the opener of the series 9-2 on March 12 in Estevan.

On Sunday, the Bruins scored three times in the final seven minutes of regulation to cement the victory.

Brayden Pachal got the visitors on the board first with a goal at 5:46 of the first, but Weyburn responded with a goal by Jacob Chalus at 12:13 to tie the game heading to the intermission.

Josh Skjonsby put the Bruins ahead less than two minutes into the second, but Weyburn's Tristyn Deroose would counter only 86 seconds later to knot the score again.

Hunter Piche gave Estevan a 3-2 lead with 4:32 to play in the period.

The Bruins' lead held until midway through the third period, when Luke Niemegeers drew the Youngfellows even once again.

Estevan's Ryder Pierson scored the eventual winner three minutes later and they would get more goals from Jayden Davis and Shae Little to salt away the win.

Ethan Veroba earned the victory in goal for the Bruins.

In Game 1, the Bruins scored first but Weyburn quickly took over.

Skjonsby got the Bruins on the board at 6:23, followed by three Weyburn goals before the end of the period, two coming from Kade Eger and the other from Kane Altwasser.

Weyburn added three more goals in the second, courtesy of Deroose, Tyde Hutchinson and Rhett Frey.
Altwasser scored twice in the third period to complete a hat trick while Deroose added his second for the Youngfellows.

Cole Fonstad netted the Bruins' second goal with 2:30 left in regulation.
