Petro Bakken push series to game three in Swift Current

Weyburn Petro Bakken Wings and Swift Current Hurricanes will play one final game to decide the champion in the South Sask Minor Hockey League.

The Midget Wings traveled to Swift Current on March 26 to battle the Hurricanes in game one of the league final and came out on the short end of a 3-2 score. The Wings trailed 1-0 in the game early but were able to tie it up in the last minute of the period with a dandy goal from Donovan Lumb, with help from Tucker Neuberger and Braden Mellon.

The second period saw the Wings take the lead on D.Lumb's second goal of the game with Neuberger and Mellon again adding the assists. Swift Current replied with two more goals in the second to regain the lead, a lead that they would not relinquish. Both teams had several good scoring chances in the third period but neither team could find the back of the net. Terrick Wilderman had a solid effort in net, picked up the loss.

On March 28 the two teams met again, but this time in the friendly confines of Crescent Point Place. The Wings came out of the gates flying and scored the first goal of the game 23 seconds in with a goal from Neuberger, D.Lumb and Mellon were the set up men. Three minutes later the Wings went up by 2 with a goal from Kolten Cleasby, asssiting were Lyndon Lumb and Cole Sjostrand. Each team added one more in the period giving the Wings a 3-1 edge after 20 minutes, scoring Weyburn's other goal of the period was Mellon, with D.Lumb and Jacob Eger assisting. The second period saw the two teams add two more goals each to keep the Wings up by two goals heading to the third. Scoring in the middle frame for Weyburn were L.Lumb and Eger with assists to Sjostrand, Mellon, and Neuberger. Once again Swift current cut the lead to 1 early in the third only to see the Wings Score 3 unanswered goals and tie the series at one game each with an 8-4 victory. Third period goals for the Wings came from L.Lumb, Kolten Cleasby, and D.Lumb. Assists on these goals went to Cleasby, Brayden Ganson, Sjostrand, L.Lumb, and Neuberger. Terrick wilderman backstopped the Wings for the win.
