Carlyle was host to a Minor Ball Day Saturday June 2 and Sunday June 3rd.The weather stayed perfect, with sunshine and warmer weather for the baseball tournament that brought teams from Carlyle, Wawota, Arcola, Carnduff, Kipling, Melville, Oxbow, Alameda, Redvers, Stoughton, Carievale, Estevan and even an AAA team from Regina.The Minor Ball day began Saturday at the Carlyle ball diamonds at 9 a.m. and went to Sunday at 5 p.m. "Winning teams under the age of 12 all received medals," explained Mary Moffat, who is spending her second year on the Minor Ball board. "The teams over the age of 12 received a cash payout of 20 dollars each game, which goes towards a team dinner or treated the teams to ice cream treats."The event is a great opportunity for young players to have fun, play the sport they love and meet new friends. The teams competed in age ranges from the Learn to Play toddlers up until the Under 16 teams. Not only did the spectators get to watch two full days of ball, but there was also a canteen open, selling refreshing drinks, freezies and of course hot dogs and burgers. "The remainder of the money fundraised goes towards the Carlyle Minor Ball League," said Moffat. "Last year it helped pay for the flush toilets, and it always helps out with the education part of the league, for the clinics and training.""According to Saskatchewan in motion, only 15% of Saskatchewan children and youth meet national guidelines for physical activity, so congratulations Carlyle on staying active and the high level of participation in sports.
