Chamber to host speaker on the economy, deadline for awards soon

The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce have two upcoming events, including a business luncheon with a speaker on the economy, and the deadline for the upcoming WEYBEX Awards is fast approaching.

The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce have two upcoming events, including a business luncheon with a speaker on the economy, and the deadline for the upcoming WEYBEX Awards is fast approaching.
The luncheon features speaker Tom Corner, an economist from Business Development Corporation, and Warren Jackson, vice-president of Financing and Consulting.
The luncheon will be held on Thursday, April 7, at Travelodge from noon to 1:30 p.m.
The topics will include looking at the state of the oil and gas industry from a global perspective, and techniques businesses could consider in current economic times, along with the benefits of diversifying a business.
The luncheon is free for member of the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce, but registration is required.
Later this spring, the WEYBEX Awards for business excellence will be given at a gala celebration on Friday, May 13 at McKenna Hall. The deadline for nominations for the various categories is coming up on Wednesday, April 13.
The categories open for nomination include Business Leader of the Year, New or Expanded Business Award, Golden Service Award, Community Involvement Award, and the Business Hall of Fame.
The Business Leader of the Year is presented to an individual who exemplifies the qualities of a business visionary, and who makes the greatest impact on their organization through innovation, integrity, and pushing their company to excellence.
The award for New or Expanded Business is given to a business that was established or expanded within the last three years, and has demonstrated exceptional performance.
The Golden Service Award recognizes a business dedicated to customer satisfaction that consistently demonstrates excellence in the delivery of products and services.
The Community Involvement Award recognizes a business for its contribution to recreation, amateur sports, arts and culture, health care, education and non-profit groups.
The Business Hall of Fame recognizes pioneer and cornerstone businesses that have demonstrated excellence over an extended period of time. Inductees should have been in business for at least 15 years.
The Business of the Year will taken from all nominees except for the Hall of Fame, and is open to all businesses that have operated in Weyburn for at least three years as of Dec. 31, 2015. Tickets for the WEYBEX awards are available at the Chamber office or through their website at www.weyburnchamber.com.
