Saskatchewan joined the other provinces to reach an agreement of the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP) on July 21. Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart and other provincial and territorial agriculture ministers were meeting on the key elements of an agricultural policy framework with Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, from July 19-21.
“The Canadian Agricultural Partnership will help ensure agriculture producers and industry have access to important funding to innovate, expand and help Saskatchewan remain a world-class agri-food producer and supplier,” Stewart commented about the CAP agreement.
CAP is a $3 billion five-year federal-provincial-territorial funding agreement that becomes effective on April 1, 2018 and replaces Growing Forward 2.
The combined provincial and federal funding will support a suite of programs focused on markets and trade, science, research and innovation, environmental sustainability and climate change, value-added agriculture and agri-food processing, and public trust.
“The Canadian Agricultural Partnership sets the direction for the future of the sector to help it continue to innovate, grow and prosper, and position Canada as a leader in the global economy,” said the federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.
