Weyburn Mayor Debra Button returned recently from what she described as "a successful and productive" conference of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), hosted this year in Halifax.

Residents who like to run will have the opportunity to do just that while raising money for a worthy cause this summer. Weyburn's Opportunity Road Race is a five, 10 or 15-kilometre race that will take place on Sunday, August 21.

The search for a missing Weyburn man ended on a sad note, when his body was discovered in the early evening hours of June 14. The search for 80-year-old Donald McCowan began two days previous, when his wife reported him missing on June 12.

Quiet and unassuming, Dion Cochrane might not fit the mould of a typical hero. Yet, the local resident is single-handedly responsible for having saved as many as 300 lives. How has he done it? By simply rolling up his sleeve.

There were 104 calls for service during the reporting period of June 6-12, including a number of incidents of property damage and theft. During the evening hours on Sunday, contents were stolen from a number of unlocked vehicles.

The Combined Choir from the Weyburn Comprehensive School sings for the luminary ceremony at the 2011 Relay For Life, held Friday night to Saturday morning at Crescent Point Place.

The 10th annual Weyburn Show and Shine will be taking place on Saturday, June 18. The event will be taking place throughout downtown Weyburn from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m., with around 200 to 250 vehicles on display. Registration will begin at 1 p.m.

Rev. Ross McMurtry will celebrate 60 years as an ordained United Church minister on Sunday, June 19, when he will present his last sermon as a guest speaker at Grace United Church. The worship service will be at 10:30 a.m.
