Competition was fierce at World Skills

The Knox United Church congregation has a long history in Redvers – well over 100 years—predating the 1925 formation of the United Church of Canada.

Congratulations to the Carlyle Sr. Girls’ Volleyball Team for taking home the Championship this past weekend in Mega Volley X. Twelve teams from across the province participated in this annual tournament in the communities of Arcola and Carlyle.

With a degree in Fine Arts, Mary Lowe of Kenton, MB has spent years perfecting her techniques. Beginning in clay and then moving into watercolours, she focuses mainly on horses, cats and elephants.

Just one year into her retirement after 35 years in education, Margaret Delainey of Regina decided she thought she could paint.

Jerri Laird is dedicated to her craft. The former Fine Arts teacher lives in Wawota and drives to Hamiota to attend the Art Club every week. Although acrylic is her comfort zone, she is working on mastering watercolour.

Elaine Rawlings of Hamiota, MB had never held a paintbrush, but in 1981 she was encouraged to join the Hamiota Art Club. She decided to take lessons in watercolour and discovered a natural talent.

Cheryl MacDonald has been working in watercolour and with art pens for 21 years, beginning with pencil sketches and painting during high school, taking a break to raise a family and teach.

Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22 will mark the 33rd Annual Homespun Craft Show & Sale.

On Thursday, Sept 5 the students of Arcola School, parents and the community came out to enjoy a barbecued hotdog or hamburger, juice and a doughnut.
