Estevan Mayor Roy Ludwig is the first candidate to file his nomination papers for the 2020 civic election in Estevan. Ludwig submitted his forms Tuesday at city hall. He will be seeking a third term as Estevan’s mayor.

The leader of the Progressive Conservative (PC) Party of Saskatchewan stopped in Estevan for a meet and greet last Friday.

The Estevan Golden Hawks captured the Estevan Men’s Fastball League championship in 1987 at Cossette Park with a 10-0 thrashing of the Estevan Sports Connection. The Hawks took the best-of-five series in three straight games.

Three new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Saskatchewan on Sept. 1, bringing the total to 1,622 reported cases. One new case is located in the North Central zone, another one is in Saskatoon zone. The location of the third case is pending.

The 2020 civic election is a little more than two months away. As always, we’re hearing speculation in the community on who will let their name stand for the next four years.

A portion of King Street in Estevan is set to open again. In a news release from the City of Estevan Tuesday morning, it stated that King Street from Hudson Road to Cundall Drive would be open at 1 p.m. Tuesday for traffic and pedestrians.

Members of the Estevan Police Service helped locate a missing person Monday. Police received a missing person report for an elderly Manitoba man during Sunday’s night shift. He was located Monday morning in Estevan.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2020 civic election in Estevan. People could start picking up nomination packages from city hall on Monday morning.

There are four new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Aug. 31, according to the Ministry of Health, bringing the total to 1,619 reported cases.
