The City of Estevan has announced that a portion of Perkins Street is going to remain closed throughout the weekend. Perkins from Second Avenue to Kensington Avenue was closed starting on Thursday afternoon.

The City of Estevan has issued a news release in response to the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan, released by the provincial government on Thursday.

Saskatchewan has 10 new cases of COVID-19, the Ministry of Health announced Friday, bringing the provincial total to 341. The total number of cases includes one new presumptive positive case.

Unlike many big communities around the world that have been posting pictures of abandoned streets, Estevan didn’t see a large amount of pedestrian traffic even prior to the pandemic.

A hockey player from Arcola who played minor hockey in Estevan was selected in Wednesday’s Western Hockey League Bantam Draft. Forward Carson Birnie was chosen in the eighth round, 160th overall, by the Red Deer Rebels.

Time has passed and Saskatchewan continues to see impressive numbers on the COVID-19 front. With these positive numbers, the province released their new plan to reopen Saskatchewan in the coming weeks and months. This is exciting.

As of April 23, Saskatchewan has five new cases of COVID-19, bringing the provincial total to 331. The total number of cases includes one presumptive positive case. Fifty-seven of the 331 cases, or 17 per cent, are considered active.

Due to road maintenance, Perkins Street from Second Avenue to Kensington Avenue is closed Thursday. Heavy traffic will be rerouted down Fourth Street.

The Estevan Fire Rescue Service (EFRS) received a report of a backyard fire Monday evening. The call came in at about 6:30 p.m.
