Estevan Police Service members were engaged in investigating three incidents of impairment, involving three different substances or materials on Oct. 15.

One matter involved alcohol, another was marijuana and the third was a cell phone.

The female cell phone user was observed driving on the wrong side of the road while engaged in a conversation on her hand-held device. Witnesses managed to obtain a licence plate number to assist police in their investigation surrounding this incident.

On the alcohol impairment file, EPS members reported that they initiated a traffic stop in the central part of the city and arrested a 25-year-old driver after he refused to provide a breath sample for a roadside screening. He was also charged with breaching the conditions of his undertaking stemming from a previous charge. He was lodged in cells until a court appearance was arranged on Oct. 27.

The third incident occurred in the north central area of the city that resulted in a 24-year-old man being arrested and charged for being in possession of marijuana. He now has a Nov. 17 court date.

Police wrapped up their Oct. 15 night shift detail by responding to a domestic disturbance that was defused for the moment but remains under investigation, followed by an altercation between two men with one knife allegedly being involved in the event that ended before police arrived. Neither of the combatants could be located and it was believed neither one had been seriously injured in the fracas.

Police also arrested a man on Oct. 15 due to the fact there was a warrant out for his arrest. After appearing before a the justice of peace to establish a court date in Weyburn, the man was released.

The Oct. 16 night shift was a little less eventful as police were called upon to attend to one specific event that involved an unconscious man inside a convenience store on the north side of the city. Police revived the 36-year-old subject and transported him to police cells where he was lodged for the rest of the night.

A couple of residential alarms attracted police attention on the night of Oct. 17. The first was a false fire alarm that was tended to by Estevan Fire Rescue Services while the other was a panic alarm triggered from a residence. When police attended the scene they spoke with the occupants of the home and determined that everything was fine.

A number of roadside checks were conducted during the night shift with the main focus being on sobriety and valid vehicle registrations. The process ended up with two men being charged with driving while impaired and driving while their blood-alcohol levels were over .08 per cent. One driver was a 32-year-old Regina male resident while the other was a 49-year-old man from Rocanville.

During that same shift, EPS members arrested an 18-year-old man for being intoxicated in public. Since the subject had no ride arranged beforehand and no other means to get to his residence, he was lodged in cells until regaining sobriety.
