The Weyburn Police Service conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Saturday. As a result of the stop, the driver was arrested for possession of a firearm. He is facing charges on possession for the purpose of trafficking in cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace. He was remanded in custody and appeared in court Sept. 25.
• City police received a complaint from a school bus driver regarding a vehicle that had disobeyed the school bus lights/stop arm on Sept. 18. The driving action was captured via video installed on the bus. As a result of the complaint, video and investigation, an adult male was charged and issued a traffic ticket for the offence.
• Weyburn police received a call regarding an assault in progress on Sept. 18. An adult male was apprehended at the scene without further incident and is now facing charges of assault and uttering threats.
• The Weyburn city police were dispatched to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 39 near the KFC on Friday. As a result of the investigation, an adult female was charged with changing lanes when unsafe. There were no reported injuries and both vehicles were drivable.
• City police received a report of a vehicle idling for a lengthy time causing pollution issues in the neighbourhood on Sept. 17. Under the provisions of the city’s noise bylaw, a vehicle is only allowed to idle for 20 minutes in a three-hour period if nearer than 100 metres to a residential area. The driver was issued a warning and advised of the bylaw.
• Weyburn police received a call of concern for the well-being of an individual on Sept. 18. The person was located and agreed to attend the local hospital.
• City police received a call regarding an adult male who was believed to be considering self-harm on Sept. 18. The person was located and it was determined that there was no immediate threat to his safety.
• Weyburn police were dispatched to a report of a domestic disturbance on Sept. 18. The police attended and mediated the situation.
• The Weyburn PS – CTSS Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Friday, after obtaining an alert from the automated license plate reader. As a result of the traffic stop, an adult male was charged for driving while suspended and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
• In addition there were a total of five scam calls this week to the Weyburn police, two involving winning for the STARS lottery, two involving rebates from SaskTel and one involving the Canada Revenue Agency.
