INDIAN HEAD – A routine traffic stop on Highway 1 near Indian Head led to a significant seizure of narcotics and contraband tobacco late Monday evening.
At approximately 9 p.m. on July 7, Indian Head RCMP pulled over a tractor-trailer unit during a traffic enforcement operation. During the investigation, officers searched the vehicle and found about 247 grams of opium and 490 boxes containing approximately 4.9 million unstamped cigarettes.
The driver and passenger, who were travelling from Ontario to British Columbia, were arrested at the scene. Manjinder Singh, 27, and Harmanjeet Singh, 23, both from Brampton, Ont., are charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, sell, offer for sale, transport, deliver, distribute, or have in his possession for the purpose of sale a tobacco product, or a raw leaf tobacco that is unstamped, sell, offer for sale of have in his possession a tobacco product unstamped, unlawfully import tobacco into Saskatchewan, and possess, store, transport or sell tobacco that is not marked in a prescribed manner.
Manjinder Singh and Harmanjeet Singh are scheduled to appear in Indian Head Provincial Court on Oct. 21.
