There are two new cases of COVID-19 in the southeast region, the Ministry of Health said Saturday. Both cases are in Southeast Zone 4, which includes Estevan.
Zone 4 covers a large area that extends from Torquay to the Manitoba border along Highway 18, Stoughton to the Manitoba border along Highway 13, and south to the U.S. border. The population is more than 31,000 people.
Since COVID-19 was first diagnosed in Saskatchewan on March 14, there have been 21 cases of the virus in the southeast region, which has four zones. Three are considered active, including two in Zone 4.
The cases in Zone 4 were reported on the same day that the last case of the virus, reported Sept. 22, was moved to recovered status.
There were a total of 14 cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Oct. 3, bringing the total to 1,954 diagnosed cases. In addition to the southeast cases, there are four new cases in the central east region, three in the Saskatoon region, two in the Regina region, two in the south central region and one in the southwest region.
Of the 1,954 reported cases, 148, or 7.6 per cent, are considered active.
Another 13 people have recovered, bringing the Saskatchewan total to 1,782 recoveries, or 91.2 per cent of those diagnosed.
One person is in hospital receiving care in an ICU in the central east zone.
There are currently 19 active reported cases in Yorkton. Contact investigations have linked most cases to known clusters within the community. Testing and contact investigations continue and it is anticipated that additional individuals will receive positive test results.
There were 2,819 COVID-19 tests performed in Saskatchewan on Friday.
