Local lacrosse teams have been busy during the past week, thanks to home games on Saturday and road games for some of the teams in Weyburn.

The Saskota Baseball League is scheduled to open its 2017 season on Tuesday night with all 10 teams in action.

Many of southeast Saskatchewan’s top young badminton players were at the Midale Central School on Saturday for the South East District Athletics Association’s junior district west playdowns.

The Estevan KPC Mosquito AA Sluggers opened their season by playing doubleheaders against the Regina White Sox and the Weyburn Beavers on the weekend.

The Estevan TS&M peewee AA Tornadoes opened the season by playing doubleheaders on the road against the Swift Current 57s and the Regina Buffaloes. The first game against the 57s was the closest, as they lost 7-6.

The Southeast Performance Pump midget AAA Twins split a doubleheader in Regina against the White Sox on Sunday. The Twins took the first game 9-7, although coach Kent Phillips said the game was likely closer than it should have been.

Members of the Estevan Golden Eels summer swim club have held their first practices of what they hope will be a banner year for the club. The Eels first practice was on Monday afternoon at the RM of Estevan Aquatic Centre.
