Another successful year of minor hockey was marked by the Weyburn Minor Hockey Association during their annual general meeting on April 27. The 2016-17 season started with over 500 athletes registered with the association.

Travis Friedrick and Curtis Regnier from the Weyburn Comp went undefeated and won gold in boys doubles during senior district badminton, held in Oxbow on Saturday.

The Estevan Motor Speedway’s (EMS) 18th season will feature more than a dozen race programs, including a number of special events for local race fans. A test and tune event was held at the track on Saturday afternoon.

Even though the Regina Pat Canadians didn’t come home with a medal, the Telus Cup midget AAA hockey tournament was still a great experience for Estevan’s Preston Brodziak.

Minor ball season has started in Weyburn, with many teams currently hitting the practice diamonds. Ken King, president of the Weyburn Minor Baseball Association, said that they are quite happy with the continued growth and interest in the sport.

The Estevan Extreme 14-and-under girls team won the silver medal at the Conexus Saskatchewan provincial volleyball championships in Saskatoon and Warman on the weekend.

The Estevan Junior Coaler Rollers roller derby team continued to prepare for the upcoming season by participating in strategy sessions on Sunday and Monday.

If it were a person, it could take early retirement. But either way, it would still end up on a golf course. The Estevan Oilfield Technical Society (OTS) will hold its 60th Annual Golf Tournament June 2-4 at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course.
