The new nomination deadline for the province's highest honour is set for Saturday, November 1, as the Saskatchewan Order of Merit prepares for its 30th anniversary next year.

The Weyburn Opportunity Road Race is being held on Sunday, August 17 beginning at Mel's on Third. At 7:30 a.m., the opening ceremonies will begin with the race to follow at 8 a.m.

The Wheatland Senior Centre held their weekly activities with the results as follows: Friday's Bridge tournament ended with Marion Brown in first place, second place to Basil Holyer, and in third was John Whitell.

The field has been narrowed down to five finalists in the race for the newest ABEX Award, the Community Cornerstone Award, and the finalists represent the communities of Carlyle, Meadow Lake, Melfort, Prince Albert and Saskatoon.

Walmart Canada is gearing up for a cross-country campaign to raise much-needed funds for Canadian Red Cross disaster preparedness and response activities. The campaign will run in Walmart stores from August 7 to 29, with an ambitious goal of $3.

One month after changes to Saskatchewan's traffic laws came into effect, 515 motorists have received licence suspensions and 785 have had their vehicles seized, for a total of 1,300 sanctions. New traffic laws took effect June 27, 2014.

As the risk for West Nile virus continues to increase, health officials are reminding Saskatchewan residents to protect themselves against mosquito bites.

The weekend of August 23 and 24 marks the province's second free fishing weekend of the summer. Everyone - including visitors to the province - will be free to fish on those days without having to buy a licence.
