If this fire event takes on 2015 proportions, that would be the time to consider bringing in ground-based crews from the military, says the SPSA's vice-president of operations.

Winnipeg hotels were opening up Monday to evacuees who fled their homes due to raging wildfires, while to the west in Saskatchewan thousands more were ordered to flee.

Wildfire is moving fast and communities urged to evacuate immediately.

Over the weekend, residents said there was a severe lack of manpower and equipment on the Saskatchewan side.

“I can’t stress this enough,” says SPSA vice-president of operations, “non-essential travel on these roads is not advised.”

Northeast Sask. fire crews, including Humboldt Fire Department, are aiding northern wildfire efforts, sending rotating teams to protect structures near Weyakwin.

SaskTel will credit customers for their SaskTel Internet, maxTV Stream, and Home Phone services for the duration of their evacuation.

Flin Flon and Creighton are still unscathed from a nearby forest fire as of Sunday, but cabin country may be a different story.
