Jon Kalmakoff, formerly of Canora, has been diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease (PKD), an inherited disease, and is looking for a kidney transplant. Kalmakoff grew up in Canora, where his family has lived and farmed for many generations.

After advancing through several qualifying bonspiels, Team Zuravloff, with two members (Zuravloff brothers) from Canora, advanced to the Junior Provincial Mens Curling Championship at the Sutherland Curling Rink in Saskatoon on Dec 27 to 31.

Mischief RCMP members are investigating a mischief occurrence that happened at a land location north of Sturgis. A truck was shot through the windshield causing both the windshield and back window to be damaged.

Adrien Rock of Canora has opened a new business which offers transportation service for Canora and area residents to as far away as Saskatoon and Regina.

Canora had a memorable year in 2018 and we are looking forward to more great things in 2019. 2018 Town Council would like to take a moment to reflect on the successes of the past year.

The Canora Christmas Bonspiel was held from December 27 to 29 at the Sylvia Fedoruk Centre, and included players of all ages. A total of 12 teams each played three games during the three-day event.

The Canora IP Cobras hosted a Cross Ice Jamboree with the help of the Saskatchewan Hockey Association (SHA) on December 16. Two teams from Kamsack and one from Norquay joined the Cobras for the jamboree, according to Genevieve Shukin, Cobras manager.

Brad Chambers, Gateway Co-op general manager, donated $2,000 to The Health Foundation on December 17. The money will go toward the purchase of a new hematology analyzer for the Canora Hospital.

Proposed changes to the back lane at Gateway Co-op, adjacent to Canora Weaving property, and the setting of water and/or sewer line rates were among the items of concern to town council at its regular meeting on December 18.
