With more than a year to go in his four-year term, the reeve of the RM of St. Philips has resigned. Reeve Bernie Vogel resigned his seat effective April 18, said Frances Olson, the administrator.

Business is as usual at Cottenie and Gardner, the Kamsack insurance company which was acquired earlier this month by Hub International Ltd.

During the Decoration Day reception at the Kamsack Legion Hall on June 2, Jim Woodward, president of the Kamsack branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, was presented with the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers.

“We need to be open to change and new opportunities while still pursuing what we have planned,” Keely Foster said in her valedictorian address during graduation exercises that were held in honour of 13 senior students of the Norquay School on May 31.

The Kamsack fire brigade was called five times during the last four days of May. The firefighting began May 28 when the brigade was called to a large grass fire in the RM of Cote south of Kamsack at about 4:30 p.m.

Members of town council had wanted public input on the community’s airstrip and they got it last week when the consensus at a meeting was overwhelming to find ways to retain it.

The 75th anniversary of D-Day, the largest seaborne invasion in history (June 6, 1944), was observed by members of the Kamsack branch of the Royal Canadian Legion during its annual Decoration Day service on June 2.

Over the May long weekend, as people get used to sunshine and warmer temperatures, things start to get hot, so to speak, for thousands of snakes near Fort Livingstone.

While being inadvertently called to one fire west of Cote Siding last week, the Kamsack fire brigade saw smoke a distance away and responded to that fire. At about 4:15 p.m.
